What Fans Want...

“Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of [Teenage Mutant] Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”

~Michael Bay

HERE is the review of that script.

There seems to be a huge disconnect between what the fans want and what the production team thinks they want.

Fans don't want to see similar characters in a similar setting (or probably a remake at all but if you must...), they ideally want to see the same characters in the same world they fell in love with from the beginning. I know because I'm a HUGE fan. If you look at any remake, the vast amount of complaints and praise are based on the source material. What that tells us is that if you want fans to be excited about your new take, you need to respect what we fell in love with in the first place. What made it a success from the get go. That's not to say new ideas should be ignored, there's certainly room for creativity and change, but stray too far from what made the original great, and you'll be doing a disservice to your audience and ultimately the success of your project.

All that said, whatever they make, fans, we'll always have the original stuff to love and enjoy. Our childhood loves will remain intact and un-pillaged.*
