Tweets!

If you stare into these eyes for 13 seconds a loved one gets concerned.

Hello my darlings! You can follow me on Twitter HERE!

Sure you could click on my twitter feed on the right but the Internet Lords demand efficiency and convenience! Who are we to challenge their lovingly generous ways?

What Fans Want...

“Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of [Teenage Mutant] Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”

~Michael Bay

HERE is the review of that script.

There seems to be a huge disconnect between what the fans want and what the production team thinks they want.

Fans don't want to see similar characters in a similar setting (or probably a remake at all but if you must...), they ideally want to see the same characters in the same world they fell in love with from the beginning. I know because I'm a HUGE fan. If you look at any remake, the vast amount of complaints and praise are based on the source material. What that tells us is that if you want fans to be excited about your new take, you need to respect what we fell in love with in the first place. What made it a success from the get go. That's not to say new ideas should be ignored, there's certainly room for creativity and change, but stray too far from what made the original great, and you'll be doing a disservice to your audience and ultimately the success of your project.

All that said, whatever they make, fans, we'll always have the original stuff to love and enjoy. Our childhood loves will remain intact and un-pillaged.*

Battle Royale on iTunes?!

Just a quick post! Hoisted by the Hunger Games flick, iTunes made Battle Royale available for rent a while back BUT NOW you can buy it from them. Click HERE to grab your copy!

I'm a big fan of this film. It gets a lot of guff over it's violence which I think is unfortunate. Although violent, Kinji Fukasaku created a stylized film with a very realistic look at ourselves and our relationships with eachother.

Super worth your time.

IW: Takanori Aiba

Award winning Takanori Aiba is an illustrator and architect who creates these amazing 3 dimensional, miniature environments. As a little kid, I would build lego pirate ships and spend hours imagining that some little guy lived in them. What he'd do, where he could put his things, how he would prepare for defending from pirate and shark attacks, or even worse: pirate shark attacks. Since that little kid still seems to occupy a scarily high percentage of my brain, I'm sorta freaking out right now. Beautiful, beautiful, work...

If you like these, you'll love his other pieces over at his website HERE.

More Clues...

Another teaser over at Sing Along Pictures!

Man, I'm getting excited for our first project to be released. It's pretty exciting for me to see it grow and develop. A long time ago, once I had an idea, I used to always try to keep the work as close to the original concept as possible. That's only great if you're the only human on Earth with ideas (you and I certainly are not). Maintaining the original spark of the idea is important, but luckily I discovered if you open yourself up to the new ideas, the genius of others, and even the "accidents", you'll allow your project to reach heights you alone couldn't take it.

Anyway! Hope you all had a great weekend and got out to the theatres (or if you had to, your home theatres). May I recommend Hope Springs?

IW: Casa en la Ladera de un Castillo

Fran Silvestre Arquitectos designed this amazing home: the Casa en la Ladera de un Castillo.

Holy geez this thing is beautiful. Would I move in? Yes. Would it be exclusively decorated with life sized Star Wars collectables? Yes. Would I have friends over all the time? Yes. But Gods help them if they touched anything.

Check out more in need of Star Wars props (and me) photos over at DEZEEN

What's This?

Another sneaky look into our first project over at the Sing Along Pictures blog HERE!

Hope everyone had a good long weekend. I watched Total Recall. Not THIS one but THIS one. You should check it out just to see the pretty incredible job on designing a vast and cohesive environment. It's nuts. But more importantly, I started LOST. I crazily didn't get a chance to see it when it was on and I miraculously missed any word on the ending so I'm going in FRESH. So far it's pretty great... but I don't trust this island, folks. Something fishy's going on...

IW: Harvey Pekar

Harvey Pekar changed comics for me forever. I had always been a huge fan of comics and my entire collection consisted of Superman, Batman, The Flash, Daredevil... a ton of hero books. That is until I came a cross American Splendor and it's writer, Harvey Pekar. What I found in American Splendor was a deeply personal, honest reflection of Harvey Pekar's life. At times hilarious, others very sad, but always amazing. Not to mention illustrated by some incredible artists, most famously, Robert Crumb. I felt like someone splashed cold water into my face! At a time when I was a teen and feeling insecure about a million things, here's this guy openly discussing all aspects of his life, even the personal parts all too often reserved only for ourselves. I stopped reading hero books for years after that.

I've since came back to some of my favorite super heroes with as much passion as I had for them before, but I needed the time to discover another side of comics. A side shown to me by the great Harvey Pekar.

A lot of his stuff has been re-released, and even made into a FILM so you should have no problem finding something at your local comic shop. But if they're insane and don't carry it, you can grab a collection of American Splendor HERE
